Can I date a JW girl?

One of my friends that i have been friends with for a long time now, i have been having feelings for her. But one day when i asked her what if some one who is one of Jehovah's witnesses felt something for some one who is not. She told me that they could have feelings but since the other person is bad ociation it probably wouldn't be right. And since i felt like a coward to ask her what if some one who is not loved some one who is JW. I have nothing against this religion in fact i wish i could somehow get more into it. And if i asked her for a date , would that hurt her in some ways? If she said yes would the people in her congregation look down on her?
